SQOTS™ Glue Dots and Synthetic Nails Experiment

A couple of weeks ago, we had an inquiry related to our article, Glue Dots for Synthetic or Plastic Nail Art.  We were asked how do they stand in water and if they will last for a couple of days. We have conducted an experiment where we joined two plastic nails together and then submerged them in water. 

Materials:

  1. Two pieces Plastic Nails preferably the same size
  2. SQOTS™ Glue Dots Tabs with Backing Paper in Dispenser Box
  3. A glass of water
  4. Tweezers
  5. Optional:  Nail Polish Remover and cotton

Process:

  1. Make sure that the nails are clean.  Note:  You can use nail polish remover if there is a need clean them up thoroughly, but you need to wait a little longer (an hour) to let the solution evaporate completely from the plastic nails.
  2. Take out one (1) SQOTS™ Glue Dots Tabs in Dispenser Box.  (This is my preferred type from the SQOTS™ range of products for this application because I can press the glue dot firmly on top of the plastic nail.)
  3. Press firmly on top of the plastic nail.
  4. Push another plastic nail on top of the one applied with a glue dot and hold firmly for about ten seconds.
  5. Wait for Four (4) hours before getting them wet or submerging them in water.
Results:

In the first experiment, after adjoining two plastic nails together, we only waited one (1) hour before immersing them in water.  The result is that, the bond remained strong but only lasted two days.

In the second experiment, we followed the same procedure and waited four (4) hours before submerging them.  The two nails remained stuck for a period longer than 1 week.  The nails are being checked from time to time  (hourly at first), and with the use of a tweezer, they are shaken hard ten times to see if they will fall off. Not surprisingly, they remained stuck to each other even after one week.

Conducting this experiment, we can now safely establish that the length of time prior to the SQOTS glue dots getting soaked has a substantial influence on the outcome.  If you are planning to wear your plastic nails longer, we suggest not getting them wet for at least four hours to ensure the strong adherence of the glue dot.

We are completely pleased with the outcome of this experiment.  Needless to say, the end result may be a little different on practical application, where we stick the glue dot on a real nail to wear the synthetic or plastic nail art; especially as we go on with our daily tasks.  (See our application, Glue Dots for Synthetic or Plastic Nail Art).  Either way, we are confident that SQOTS™ Glue Dots are very strong and should hold the nails for this purpose.
